Positioning for Success in Cyclical Agricultural Economics - SESSION FULL

Previous generations were required to manage volatility, yet global and domestic economic forces have moved the bar to volatility in the extremes.  This will create more opportunity in the decade ahead than the past half century; however, if not managed properly, it can create a high probability for failure. Join this energizing session and take a walk around economic trends followed by their implications to your organization, business, and personal endeavors.  Regardless of the cycle, if managed well and proactively, then you will be on the positive end of the profit spectrum.

Where Are You in Your Cloud Journey?

Many institutions have evaluated the movement of a particular platform (such as an loan origination system) or even a data warehouse to a cloud deployment. However, this limited migration could be considered Step #1 in your cloud journey. For example, some institutions have worked to move all their applications into the cloud to reduce total cost of ownership and more importantly, lower the cost to expand into new opportunities. Our goal is to walk thru a framework to help you determine where you are in your cloud journey and to hear from experts about the returns generated from various digital models.

Taking Credit Decisions to the Future

Many financial institutions struggle to implement and benefit from commercial credit automation. But advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence are rapidly changing the game, making it possible to identify risk during the credit application process and throughout the life of the loan without exhausting resources. We will share our first-hand experience working with financial institutions to use automation to help them make better, faster credit decisions.

Leveraging Economic Forecasts in CECL: The Unique Challenges Faced by Smaller Institutions

Smaller institutions often have unique dynamics which are not reflected in CECL models built on industry-wide data. Moreover, the lack of sufficient loss history makes calibration challenging. One reasonable solution in such cases is the use of qualitative factor overlays. Smaller institutions are also usually more exposed to the local economy than to the broader national trends. Since each region faces certain unique economic risks, it is important to incorporate these regional idiosyncrasies in the estimation of expected credit losses under CECL.

This session will discuss how to determine and incorporate qualitative overlays under CECL and how to leverage regional data to improve CECL estimates

Risk and Return: How to Compute the Key Elements of Risk-Based Pricing at Origination and its Applications

Many small to medium sized financial institutions struggle to calculate their loan level profitability at origination, given many contributing factors that need to be taken into account, such as: capital requirements, expected credit loss and cost of funds to name a few. However, you can utilize the high quality information collected during the credit decisioning process to calculate the risk adjusted returns before you make a credit decision. Furthermore, multiple scenarios can be run and compared to find out the optimal term structure, collateral allocation, interest rate and commission to be charged. Once you have calculated loan level RAROC, an institution can determine profitability by product, loan officer, or branch.
